EraMED Issue flyer 2
10 November 2008
Dear EraMED Pilot:
I am in receipt of the letter Mr. Umfleet sent to all of you. Due to the timing of the letter it is uncertain if it was prepared by a hired labor consultant (union buster). However, by now EraMED has hired a union buster. Like all antiunion letters Mr. Umfleet’s letter was very negative and avoided your issues.
Future antiunion letters you receive will again avoid the issues, and be full of scare tactics, attacks and "we really care about you" dialogue. Other things you can expect from the union buster will be: captive audience meetings, one-on-one meetings and a sudden interest in your concerns.
If union representation and collective bargaining offers nothing to you then why is management so concerned? Are they looking after your interest, or their interest?
"Union busting is a field populated by bullies on deceit. A campaign against a union is an assault on the individuals and a war on the truth. As such, it is a war without honor. The only way to bust a union is to lie, distort, manipulate, threaten, and always, always attack. The law does not hamper the process. Rather, it serves to suggest maneuvers and define strategies. Each “union prevention” campaign, as the wars are called, turns on a combined strategy of misinformation and personal attacks". From “Confessions of a Union Buster” By Martin J. Levitt
With union representation:
- You will have a legal voice regarding your working conditions, wages and benefits.
- You will decide what will be proposed in your union contract and elect a pilot bargaining team that will work closely with the OPEIU professional negotiator.
- You will vote on all matters important to your membership, including your union contract and what your monthly dues will be.
- You will pay no dues until after you vote to accept your union contract.
- You will no longer be an “At Will” employee.
- You will have an unbiased dispute resolution process that will include legally binding arbitration.
- You will have a legally binding contract and will no longer be subject to unilateral changes by management.
Enclosed for your consideration is an Authorization Card. If you have sent a card there is no need to send another one. The cards are valid for one year. If you know of any pilots who need cards please refer them to the web site where they can download one.
I you haven’t yet, please take the time to review the web site. It contains a lot good information, particularly in the organizing information and FAQ’s links.
Interest is growing. However, for your union campaign to be successful it will require the willingness of you to get involved. To find out how you can help please contact me. Your confidence will be respected and protected.
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me.
All my best,
Jeff Rusich
