UPMC has never and will probably never survey STAT pilots to inquire about compensation and benefit priorities that might interest STAT pilots or potential STAT pilots to keep quality pilots coming to STAT.  The Office and Professional Employees International Union will afford this opportunity prior to contract negotiations with UPMC.
AS SUCH, EACH AND EVERY STAT PILOT WILL HAVE A VOICE IN THE QUALITY OF HIS CAREER!
The following issues are examples of what can be proposed during negotiations and currently are in other OPEIU contracts:

  1. Time and one half pay for any 15 min period before or after an excess of 12 hours duty.
(Already enjoyed by other UPMC employees)

  2. Time and one half pay for all time in excess of 80 hours per two week period.
(Already enjoyed by other UPMC employees)

  3. Holiday pay for working, instead of enjoying holidays with family.
(Already enjoyed by most UPMC employees)

  4. Pay-raises each year of the contract that recognize skills, experience, quality of life and costs of living.

  5. Seniority recognition for time committed to UPMC.  (To be shaped by pilots, not UPMC)

  6. Compensation for not using UPMC benefits.  (Many companies do this)

  7. Paid from the time you leave your home if you are covering shortages at another base.

  8. Other issues of importance as presented by a majority of pilots.

Things that are a given when pilots choose to be represented by OPEIU

  1. No longer able to be fired without ‘just cause’ and ‘due process’…job security.
  2. No surprises in pay and benefits...career, financial and family planning.
  3. Union representation for grievances…standardized fairness.
  4. Union representative present for disciplinary meetings…you don’t have to go it alone.

Sincerely,
Concerned STAT Pilots
